  Part 5

  MZ. ROBINSON

Octavia Ellis is a sexy and independent woman who plays it safe when it comes down to relationships. She lives by one rule: keep it strictly sexual. Octavia is living her life just the way she wants. No man. No issues. No drama. When she meets the handsome Damon Whitmore, everything changes. Octavia soon finds that Damon has become a part of her world and her heart. However, when temptation comes in the form of a sexy-hardcore thug named, Beau, Octavia finds herself caught in a deadly love triangle. She soon learns in life and love, there are no rules and she’s surprised at what she herself, will not do for love.

Shontay Holloway is as faithful as they come when it comes to her husband, Kenny. For eight years she’s been his support system physically and financially. She’s managed to overlook the fact that he’s a woman chaser and even turned the other cheek when he got another woman pregnant. Shontay would rather work it out with Kenny than start fresh with someone new. She’s not satisfied but she is content. Is there really a difference? Shontay doesn’t think so, but that soon changes when she meets Savoy Breedwell.

Shontay finds herself torn between her vows and the man she’s falling for. When tragedy strikes, Shontay learns that the love she thought her husband had for her is nothing more than a cover up for his true intentions. She becomes a woman on a mission. When she’s finished, Till death do us part, may have a whole new meaning.

“What would you do for love?”

“How would you handle the discovery that your marriage was built on lies?”

Damon Whitmore is a true go-getter who will stop at nothing to get what he desires. His wife Octavia was no exception. When Damon first saw Octavia he knew he had to have her. He went through great lengths until his mission was accomplished. Now, two years later, he and Octavia share a wonderful and lavish life together. Damon exceeded all of Octavia’s expectations while managing to keep his secrets of deceit and manipulation hidden but what’s done in the dark eventually comes to light and Damon’s lies are slowly beginning to unravel.

When a face from Damon’s past re-surfaces, Damon finds himself facing a life alerting dilemma that could cause him to lose the very thing he fought so hard to build—his family with Octavia. Damon refuses to lose and he’ll stop at nothing, including murder, to keep his family in tact.

Octavia Ellis-Whitmore never thought she would be a one man woman. Living by a no strings attached policy, she kept her encounters with men strictly sexual. When she met Damon everything in her world changed. Octavia opened her heart and fell hard for Damon. Octavia is now living and loving her life to the fullest. However, history has a way of repeating itself and temptation has a way of finding Octavia. When things at home begin to get rocky, Octavia finds herself struggling between remaining true to the vows she pledged to Damon and exploring her feelings for a new and mysterious stranger—a stranger who has a startling connection to Damon and his past.

As the drama unfolds, lies and secrets will be exposed and lines will be crossed on both ends. How far will Damon and Octavia go to protect each other from the other’s transgressions and how many will fall victim to the lies that have been spun in the name of love?

Damon has done everything within his power to protect his family and keep his marriage in tact. However, some things are out of a man’s control and the life Damon has been working so hard to preserve is beginning to unravel before his eyes. When Damon’s greatest fear comes true he becomes a man on a mission and no one is safe from his wrath.

For Octavia, finding out her husband has been spinning lie after lie since they met is one thing but confessing her own transgressions is another. She refuses to allow her own sins to be her marriage’s downfall but can’t resist wondering if there are some things that shouldn’t be repaired. When Octavia is faced with what could be her greatest tragedy, she will put everything on the line, including her life to save those she loves.

Kelly had one hope and desire when he entered Damon and Octavia’s lives which was to claim the money he thought was his birth right. Now that he’s gotten to know the woman that Octavia is and everything she stands for, he can’t forget her nor can he shake the desire to finish what the two of them started. Kelly’s love of money is strong but he’s slowly discovering his lust and desire for Octavia are stronger. Loving Octavia was never in the plan but plans change and now Kelly must make a life altering decision.

Lena will forever think of Damon as the one who got away…the one whom would have made her life perfect. To her life is nothing without the right man to share it with and Damon is that man. Lena believes the best solution is to rid herself of any and all problems that prevent her from being with the man she loves. That problem just so happens to be Octavia.

When the lives of these four collide, love will be lost, lies will be exposed and lust will lead to death and destruction. All will be effected and life for those who survive will never be the same…

As the drama unfolds, lies and secrets will be exposed and lines will be crossed on both ends. How far will Damon and Octavia go to protect each other from the other’s transgressions and how many will fall victim to the lies that have been spun in the name of love?

“…With love we must be willing to sacrifice and expose ourselves like an innocent child with disregard to the world or it’s scrutiny. We must accept there will be moments of sadness that come in the midst of our joy and understand that any and every thing worth claiming and holding onto is worth struggling and fighting for…” ~Mz.   Chapter 1

  Octavia

I sat with my fingers locked together with Damon’s while anxiously awaiting the verdict in the trial of Leon Douglass, aka Gator. I had been waiting for this day to come for well over a year, and now that the moment had arrived, I felt bittersweet relief. Living through the trial and testimony had been hell and had led to the onset of so many unresolved emotions regarding the destruction of a portion of my family.

I know that Gator wasn’t responsible for everything that proceeded the day I was snatched outside my car while my daughter looked on. I also know that he had nothing to do with the deaths of my best friend and her husband, but the events had taken place so close together that it was difficult for me to think of one without reliving the other. Maybe in some small way I felt that if I at least got justice for Gator’s role in my abduction and his plot to murder Damon, I would have some form of solace when it came to the loss of my loved ones. I cut my eyes to the right, observing the facial expressions of the seven women and five men that comprised the jury, each member looked like they had been through their own personal hell. It was obvious the court sessions had taken an emotional toll on them as well.

The trial, which lasted four days, was emotionally and physically draining on me, but I was positive it was all going to be worth it. Twenty-four hours earlier during the closing arguments, the petite blonde prosecutor described in vivid detail my abduction, and the blood bath that had taken place the final night Gator and his henchmen held me and Lena hostage. I was on the brink of tears as I watched her pace back and forth across the floor of the courtroom, recanting my story with such eloquence and passion, you would have thought that my story was her own. She pleaded with the jury for them to find Gator guilty and make him ultimately pay for his sins against me and other voiceless victims. I was moved by her words; however, Gator, on the other hand, seemed utterly unfazed. During the trial, he sat with a smug look on his face and eyes as cold as the North Pole. Dressed in a dark designer suit with a crimson red silk tie, Gator’s demeanor was more like that of a king being toasted by his subjects than a man facing a life sentence in prison. It was clear that Gator was overflowing with confidence that the end of the trial would weigh in his favor.

Why wouldn’t he think that? Reality dictated that he could. In a separate hearing, Gator had been acquitted on several other charges including racketeering and extortion. I, and probably every other adult in the city of Huntsville, Alabama with a functioning brain, knew Gator was guilty as charged; however, he had managed to slip right through the system without so much as a slap on the ass for those charges. The justifications behind the dismissal of the charges ranged from lack of evidence to inconsistent testimonies and even the failure to appear by key witnesses. I knew all the trumped-up reasons for letting him walk were lies. The truth of how he got off on those charges was based solely on the fact that Gator’s reputation preceded him wherever he went, and his money seemed to take the “im” out of impossible.

I was hoping for better results in the current proceedings. After all, the DA had strong and accurate witness statements from me and my husband. There was even testimony from my employee Amel, who told of her experiences while being around Gator and his team when she was in a relationship with Beau. I hoped all of those things would help for a different outcome.

Gator’s attorney, a chocolate, slim brother who looked like he was fresh out of college, maintained that Gator was an innocent man who had merely gotten caught up in his brother-in-law’s emotional tirade. He stood firm on the notion that his client was a family man who only wanted the best for those he loved.

“My client is a man of honor and respect,” he said. “A family man who believes in the power of love and
whose love knows no limits. My client is the kind of man who practices the principle of honor and exercises loyalty. Ladies and gentleman of the Jury, my client is guilty. But guilty of what? Of choosing to stand by his family? Guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Guilty of being his brother’s keeper? Yes! Those are the only things my client is guilty of.”

I listened in disbelief, as he continued giving a speech that was laced with so much bullshit that I felt like I needed to grab a tissue and wipe my ass. I stared at one of the jurors, a young woman with light skin and wide eyes. That heifer had the nerve to wipe tears from her eyes! She was nodding her head like she agreed with each one of the lies that were being told to them. I wanted to run over and knock the breath out of her ass and give her something to really cry about!

I managed to maintain control of my emotions and got through the trial without an emotional outburst, but I couldn’t promise the same outcome once the jury gave their guilty verdict. All I could hope was that I wasn’t going to hop my pregnant behind out of my seat and shake it like the entire courtroom was making it rain! The jury foreman rose to make the announcement I had been waiting for. I ran my hand across my swollen belly, flinching slightly as the baby growing inside me kicked me again. It was the tenth kick in less than twenty minutes, and if I didn’t know any better, I would have sworn he or she was trying to tell me something. I took a deep cleansing breath attempting to calm my nerves.

“Are you okay?” Damon whispered in my ear. I nodded my head yes then closed my eyes. I said a silent prayer thanking God for bringing this part of my journey to an end. I asked Him to continue to bless me and my family as we continued down the road to recovery. I even asked Him to bless Gator’s wife—who was the only member of his family present—with understanding and peace.
